About this place
When an evening of drinking draws to a close and you want a final dish that satisfies without weighing heavily on the stomach, somen is an appealing alternative to rich late-night fare. Located on the 1st floor of Park City Musashi-Koyama The Mall, Somen-ya Hayashi brings together dedicated somen craftsmanship with the lively charm of an izakaya stocked with seasonal appetizers and sake.
The menu features inventive somen broths made with soy milk. Combining traditional dashi with soy milk, soft-boiled eggs, cheese, or chili oil and meat, these bowls deliver a smooth, creamy richness that complements the silky glide of the thin wheat noodles. Diners will also find classic dashi-based broths served hot or cold, as well as comforting warm noodle bowls like double chicken paitan or Togo Lake giant freshwater clam dashi.
The lineup of izakaya dishes leading up to the noodles is equally considered. Braised skewers of beef tendon, pork stomach, and honeycomb tripe pair well with the house green chili sauce. Plates such as chicken karaage marinated in homemade soy-sauce koji, Kuroge Wagyu tongue and Kujo scallion sukiyaki, and seasonal tempura keep the counter lively.
The drinks list ranges from all-you-can-drink sake tastings and weekly rotations to matcha highballs made with tea from Imperial Household purveyor Hosuien, alongside citrus- and spice-accented sours. Centered around counter seating, the compact space welcomes solo visitors dropping in after work just as comfortably as couples seeking a quiet second stop for the night.
